Following an explosive report involving Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers, the organization is being looked at with narrowed eyes as its star players appear to be going through internal turmoil.

Embiid was harshly reprimanded by teammate Tyrese Maxey during a team meeting Monday night in which Maxey “challenged Embiid to be on time for team activities, calling the MVP of the 2022-23 league about being late for everything”, Shams Charania. reported Tuesday.

Embiid was asked about the events of that allegedly divisive team meeting following Wednesday’s 117-111 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies.

“Whoever leaked this is a real asshole,” Embiid said, via Tony Jones Athletics. “We talked about a lot of things. I don’t want to go into details. But that whole thing, that part, probably took 40 seconds. But it’s Joel Embiid, so things will always be blown out of proportion. But that’s nonsense. I take it. I’m the reason for everything, so I guess I’ll be blamed for everything.

“Nothing malicious was said. I like when people tell me when I’m not doing well and when I need to be better. This part (the delay) probably happened once or twice when I wasn’t playing. So I have to be better. I have to be perfect. I have to be specific, which I’m going to do.

Embiid added that he thought it was “annoying” having to deal with the incessant drama and negativity off the court and said he was trying his best to “focus on basketball.”

Currently in his ninth season with the 76ers, Embiid seems a far cry from his MVP winner of two years ago. The Philadelphia big man, however, recorded 35 points and 11 rebounds in his best game so far on Wednesday night. The 76ers remain just 2-12 through 14 games despite entering the 2024-25 season with championship hopes.
