Lowestoft traders say better signs needed on one-way street

Wendy Dalton, secretary of the Kirkley Pocket Parks group, which installed the “Kirkley Village Shops” signs and planters, said traders were frustrated.

“They wanted us to cut the arrows, but they are expensive panels so we covered the arrows. But our panels didn’t cause this problem because it has been going on for many years,” she said.

“The biggest problem is that there are no ‘No Right Turns’ signs on the approach to Waterloo Road.

“It’s such a simple solution but very frustrating because Suffolk Highways says they won’t do it.”

Glen Manship, Managing Director of Red Hot Media Limited, said: “I have been here for over 18 years and have regularly seen two or three cars going the wrong way on Waterloo Road most days.

“The problem is that the road signs are not in place and there is a risk of an accident happening.”

Alice Taylor, of The Rum Lot, said: “All traders want our customers to be safe and drivers to know where they are going and anything the authorities can do to help them would be a good thing.”
