On Thursday morning, firefighters said the goal was to repopulate areas near where Al-Lateef disappeared and further north; groups were also formed to search areas of Liberty Township and Fairfield. In an update at 11:30 a.m. Thursday morning, West Chester officials said there are eight retention ponds on the Wyndtree Drive property; two of them were searched Wednesday evening in the dark while five others were searched Thursday morning.

Fire and police searchers asked anyone within a five-mile radius of Wyndtree Drive to check doorbell cameras or CCTV cameras between 4:45 p.m. and dusk Wednesday evening.

Al-Lateef is non-verbal, stands approximately 4 feet tall and weighs approximately 50 to 60 pounds. He was wearing a black or dark-colored jacket, a beige shirt, beige pants and black shoes. Police said he is known to like water and parks and may run away if you approach him. Police also said he would not be able to come when his name was called.

Several different agencies — including the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Texas Equusearch, Buckeye SAR and several Cincinnati-area agencies — responded to assist in the search, along with nearly 300 volunteers from the local community, the chief said Thursday morning of West Chester Police, Brian Rebholz.

They are bringing various expertise and technical equipment to help, although Rebholz said that due to the weather, crews have been limited in their ability to use thermal imaging and some forms of aerial assets. Rebholz nonetheless said crews were able to launch drones to aid the search and planned to continue doing so as long as the weather permitted.

Crews initially began searching the apartment complex where the boy lived, but have since expanded their search. They are currently searching the northwest parts of West Chester, with officials saying Al-Lateef may also have gone to Liberty or Fairfield townships.

“We are counting on our citizens and our partners to be able to take the photo that we have provided and to be able to call our dispatch center if they have any information that they think is related to this,” said Deputy Fire Chief Randall Hanifen .

Anyone with information or who has seen Al-Lateef is asked to call police at 513-777-2231.
