T1 Adds LCK Legend and Former World Champion to Coaching Staff in Aim of Winning Treble

Following their victory at the 2024 Worlds, T1 will expand their coaching staff with none other than Mata, a legendary LCK player who won the 2014 Worlds with Samsung White. Mata also played for T1 for just over a year between 2018 and 2019, and could prove to be a great addition.

The inclusion of Mata was announced by T1 on X on November 21. “Mata has joined T1’s LCK team as a coach,” the post read. “Show your support during his return as coach, and we look forward to building the future with him” (translated from Korean by X). Mata’s arrival as coach could be linked to departure from Roachanother T1 coach, due to compulsory military service. The 2014 world champion has been coaching for some time, helping Gen.G score a LCK Spring Victory 2024 (ironically against T1 itself) and working with Royal Never Give Up in the LPL. Now he’s back at one of his old homes, hopefully ready for a Worlds triumph.

Aside from his coaching career, Mata, whose real name is Cho Se-hyeong, has been involved in League of Legends for over a decade, starting his career in 2012. Just two years later, in 2014, Mata was part of the Worlds-winning team at Samsung White, which lifted the silver chalice at the 2014 Worlds and won is placed in the leading group. League Hall of Fame. Mata played the supporting role, a role he continued to perform throughout his playing career. After his tenure at T1, Mata answered the coach’s call and stepped away from the game, and he has remained as coach ever since.

T1 is the outgoing world champion after his brilliant victory earlier in November. The team is chasing history once again as they attempt to win their third consecutive world championship title, and hopefully with Mata the three-peat dream can come true.
