Women speak out after surviving car-to-car shooting on Highway 215 in San Bernardino

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (KABC) — Three Hesperia women survive bus ride filming on Highway 215, and two of them are now talking about the terrifying ordeal.

The incident happened early Saturday morning along the southbound lanes near Devore. Their driving took a violent turn when their car was fired upon.

The driver, who spoke to Eyewitness News but asked not to be identified publicly for safety reasons, described the shocking moment.

“When they first shot at my car, I never thought it was gunshots. I thought my car was broken down,” she said.

But it quickly became clear that three bullets had pierced his car, one of which struck the upper leg of his backseat passenger.

“She just calmly said ‘they hit me’. Which was weird, I think if she had panicked I probably would have panicked even more,” the driver said.

The women were on their way to a church event in Madera around 4 a.m. when they noticed two vehicles following them. A vehicle turned on its lights, according to the front-seat passenger.

“They were turning their lights on and off and we didn’t think anything of it until our friend told us they hit her,” the front-seat passenger said.

After the shooting, the women went to a nearby gas station and called 911.

Emergency services arrived and the injured woman was taken by ambulance, her injuries not being life-threatening.

The California Highway Patrol is investigating the incident, which they believe was unprovoked.

“I don’t know why we were targeted. I just feel like now it’s scary to drive. I see a car and I’m just scared, I don’t know what they’re doing ” the driver said.

The San Bernardino CHP office is asking anyone with information about the shooting to come forward.
