Star Search Top 20 Contestants Mistake Marcus Chin for Chinese Actor Chen Jian Bin; Ask the host why he left China to join SG

When someone mentions the name Chen Jian Bin, we assume Singaporeans will immediately think of a war veteran. star Marcus Chin72.

But we have just been proven wrong.

In The making of a starthe latest episode of Mediacorp’s The Dream Competition, a series retracing the journey of Star search 2024Among the top 20 candidates, candidates take masterclasses taught by industry professionals.

Like a top model turned actress Sheila Sim for stage presence and body movements and Mediacorp executive producer Loh Woon Woon and director Nelson Chia for acting.

They also took courses in Dennis Chew And Guo Liang to hone their hosting skills and meet special guests Qi Yuwu, Yann YannYES 933 DJ Jeff Goh And Marcus Chinall of whom made surprise appearances.

One of the participants, Lee Ting Xuan, 19, however, did not seem very prepared for the occasion.

For this episode’s hosting class, the contestants were each given the opportunity to ask Marcus two questions and only those whose questions were approved by the mentors were allowed to ask a third.

When Guo Liang asked who would like to start, Ting Xuan raised his hand enthusiastically.

“I was the first to raise my hand because in the last episode I couldn’t play,” explained the 19-year-old student.

For his first question, Ting Xuan chose to ask Marcus about his Sichuan restaurant, Tian Tian you Yuwhich he founded with Kate Pang, former Mediacorp actress in 2021.

“I read online that you opened a boutique and I would like to ask you why you decided to start this business back then,” she asked.

Seems completely harmless, right? Well, apparently not.

“Don’t bother asking that question, the company went bankrupt. You’re just realizing that,” Marcus replied, as Dennis and Guo Liang both burst into laughter.

We don’t blame Ting Xuan, though. After all, Marcus never publicly stated that his business had closed its doors.

However, it was the way she ignored Marcus’ response that failed to atone for her mistake.

Even after Guo Liang quickly prompted her to respond, she didn’t take the hint and attempted to ask her second question.

When she was abruptly stopped by Guo Liang, Ting Xuan asked cluelessly, “Oh, shall I continue (asking about the previous topic)?”

“He told you that his company had closed down, aren’t you going to react to that?” asked a baffled Guo Liang, who then explained to the class that they couldn’t ignore the answers given by the people interviewed.

“It’s a simple courtesy, and it also shows the consistency of your thinking. On top of that, it also makes the show more interesting,” he explained.

As if that wasn’t embarrassing enough, Ting Xuan moved on to his second question for Marcus.

“I know you were born in Xinjiang, China, why did you choose to come to Singapore to pursue your career? she said, as the camera panned to a very confused Marcus.

Are you coming back?

Marcus, in case you were wondering, is a true blue Singaporean and quickly figured out what was going on.

“He’s my other twin brother, called Chen Jian Bin. The ‘Bin’ in his name is a different Chinese character than mine,” the sportsman joked.

“You looked at (Chen Jian Bin) wrong! You gathered wrong information,” he added.

Ting Xuan later explained in a b-roll interview that she had seen two versions of “Chen Jian Bin” during her research, but did not realize that the last character of their Chinese names was different .

She realized, however, that she would make a mistake as soon as Marcus entered the room that day.

In a flashback video, Ting Xuan was seen telling her fellow contestants, “Is that Chen Jian Bin?” This is not the person I prepared questions for.”

Now the real question is: why did she still choose to volunteer first when she knew she had done bad research?

Needless to say, Ting Xuan’s mentors were not very satisfied with his performance.

“It was extremely embarrassing, she should go back and reflect on herself,” Dennis said in another interview.

Moral of the story? Being enthusiastic doesn’t always pay off.
