NYSEG and the Department of Transportation prepare for the winter season

BINGHAMTON (WBNG) — With the winter season upon us, NYSEG and the New York State Department of Transportation are preparing.

In turn, they said they wanted to make sure the public was as well. About a foot of snow is expected to fall in parts of the South Thursday night into Friday morning.

Daniel Scharfenberger, DOT Region 9 public information specialist, said the team has been preparing for snow for weeks.

“I’m working on their trucks, working on everything to be ready for these snow events,” Scharfenberger said. “So, everyone is ready to go.”

Scharfenberger said motorists should stay at least 100 feet away from snow plows and not attempt to pass them while they are operating.

Alexis Arnold, NYSEG communications manager, said the best way to stay safe is to stay indoors. She noted that staying indoors creates a safer work environment allowing their teams to work more efficiently.

While at home, Arnold wanted to make sure residents stocked up on essentials.

“It’s a good reminder to make sure you have flashlights and fresh batteries on hand,” Arnold said. “You want to make sure you have fresh water and non-perishable food at home for a few days. »

She also advised people to charge their devices.
