General Advisor on Textiles and Jute Brigadier General (retd) Dr M Sakhawat Hossain has urged South Korean investors to invest in Bangladesh’s textile and jute sectors for mutual benefit of the two countries.

Sakhawat, also an advisor to the Ministry of Shipping, made the appeal when a South Korean delegation paid him a courtesy visit at his office at the Bangladesh Secretariat today (October 28).

“It is now safe to invest in Bangladesh. The process of participating in the leasing process is open for investors as the government has planned to restart production in the closed factories through PPP and long-term rentals,” a declared the advisor to the delegation.

Furthermore, the maritime advisor mentioned that there are immense potentials in the naval sector, especially in the shipyard and shipbuilding industry, and there are also opportunities to invest here through the through public-private partnerships (PPPs) or joint ventures.

Referring to the long-standing bilateral relations between Bangladesh and South Korea, Sakhawat said, “Bangladesh and South Korea have a long history of friendly relations. Korea is one of the country’s development partners. Several Korea-related projects are underway under the leadership of the ministry. people work in different sectors in Bangladesh.

“Yesterday, two factories were transferred to the Pran group through a lease… Initially, a period of 30 years was granted, but there is an option for further extension. In addition, each factory has a good communication system,” he said.

During the meeting, the Korean investor delegation praised the country’s overall development and said, “Bangladesh enjoys good trade relations with Korea, which is also one of the jute importing countries of Bangladesh.”

The delegation expressed interest in visiting the factories located in Khulna while the concerned ministry assured them of providing all necessary cooperation in this regard.

Secretary, Ministry of Textiles and Jute, Md Abdur Rouf, and Secretary, Ministry of Shipping, Delwara Begum were also present.
