Police arrested them on Thursday as part of their Vala Umgodi operation at a mine in Pongola.

KwaZulu-Natal police spokesman Robert Netshiunda said officers were following intelligence on illicit mining activities in the area.

“Upon arrival at the scene, the four suspected illegal miners were caught processing gold. They were found with mining equipment, including explosives. The suspects, whose ages range from 27 to 40 years old, are due to appear in the Pongola Magistrate’s Court on Friday, November 22.
