Mahindra BE 6e and XEV 9e: trigger an electric revolution

Mahindra EV

Be it the iconic Thar or the legendary Scorpio, Mahindra has long dominated the Indian automobile industry with its range of SUVs. Today, the brand known for making highly desirable and high-performance SUVs is preparing to go even further with the launch of its new electric SUVs, the BE 6e and XEV 9e. These two all-new eSUVs are expected to debut on November 26, 2024, at a special event in Chennai, themed Unlimit India.

For the first time, Mahindra will simultaneously present two electric premium SUVs on the same day. The brand believes that the BE 6e and XEV 9e will not only redefine the segment but also be a game changer, marking a pivotal moment in the Indian electric vehicle (EV) market.

What will set Mahindra eSUVs apart?

The upcoming BE 6e and XEV 9e are built on an all-new INGLO platform – an architecture dedicated to electric vehicles. Unlike traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) platforms that many electric vehicles have adapted from, this new eSUV-specific platform addresses several key issues and opens up a wide range of possibilities. The downsides of using a modified ICE platform to manufacture electric vehicles have limitations due to the arrangements made for various components, such as the transmission tunnel. This leads to inefficient packing of internal space and the electric vehicle is left with many compromises.

Mahindra said the “Electric Origin” philosophy has enabled INGLO to be one of the lightest flat-floor skateboard architectures. This not only improves seat flexibility, but also eliminates the central tunnel. Additionally, the platform’s low center of gravity, achieved by placing the battery in the underbody, provides greater stability and maneuverability. Above all, the INGLO is constructed of ultra-high strength steel and reinforced frontal structure, guaranteeing the safety of passengers.

The INGLO platform, meanwhile, allows for more generous trunk space as well as a front trunk (frunk) as the batteries are neatly stored under the floor, and is versatile enough to accommodate both single or two engines. , with a rear-wheel drive configuration generating power ranging from 231 PS to 285 PS.

It is also a flexible architecture, allowing Mahindra to develop electric vehicles across different segments or body styles in the future. Additionally, it can house batteries ranging from 59 kWh to 79 kWh, which has never been seen before in any mainstream electric vehicle in India. Speaking of which, the BE 6e and XEV 9e will likely be equipped with LFP (Lithium Ion Phosphate) battery technology, known for its longevity, safety and stability. Additionally, the INGLO supports fast charging up to 175 DC, which can charge the battery 20-80% in 20 minutes.
