Steve Biko Teaching Hospital receives medical equipment worth R26 million

Steve Biko University Hospital (SBAH) on Malan Street in Moot has been equipped with “world-class” facilities that will ensure the facility improves healthcare services.

The hospital unveiled cutting-edge medical equipment and technology worth more than R26 million on Thursday 21 November.

According to Gauteng MEC for Health and Wellness Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko, this investment is part of the Gauteng Department of Health (GDoH) to modernize and improve healthcare infrastructure, improve patient care and increase operational efficiency.

“This investment worth more than R26 million will ensure that the hospital continues to deliver better outcomes with fewer complications, shorter hospital stays and reduced readmission rates,” she said.

The newly acquired equipment includes:

-Two catheterization laboratories (Cath Lab),
-Two Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) devices,
– a positron emission tomography scan (PET-CT),
-Three Bucky X-ray machines,
– a chest x-ray machine,
– Three Mobile C-Arm machines and
– Six mobile x-rays.

She said it was important that health facilities in Gauteng were well equipped and resourced to provide quality health services.

According to Nkomo-Ralehoko, the newly acquired advanced health equipment is less invasive, more comfortable and often faster, making treatment and procedures less intimidating for patients.

She said they would not only improve the accuracy of diagnostic imaging and treatment, but also increase patient comfort and safety.

“They will also reduce errors, improve outcomes and build trust between healthcare providers and patients.” »

Furthermore, Nkomo-Ralehoko said the GDoH was making progress in expanding radiotherapy infrastructure with the construction of additional radiotherapy centers underway in Chris Hani Baragwanath University Hospital And Dr George Mukhari Teaching Hospital.

She said it would improve the ability to provide cancer treatment in the province.
