Floodplain meetings coming soon, debris drop-off times are changing

Volusia County seeks feedback from residents on its plans to reduce flood and disaster risks, and strengthen the county against flooding.

County officials will hold two meetings to get feedback on possible updates to the Emergency Management Division’s Local Mitigation Strategy Plan and Floodplain Management Plan, according to a county news release.

Two meetings will cover the same information. The first will be held Monday at 5:30 p.m. at the DeLand Regional Library at 130 E. Howry Ave., and the second will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Daytona Beach Regional Library at 105 Jackie Robinson Parkway.

A wrap-up meeting will be held at 9 a.m. Dec. 13 at the Emergency Operations Center at 3825 Tiger Bay Road.

The plans are volusia.org/emergency.

Change of hours for plant debris deposit sites following Hurricane Milton

Volusia County has set new hours for four sites where residents can drop off plant debris from Hurricane Milton.

The new hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, but they will all be closed on Thanksgiving.

The sites are at 1360 Veterans Memorial Parkway in Orange City, 1990 Air Park Road in Edgewater, the Tomoka Landfill at 1990 Tomoka Farms Road in Port Orange and the Old Plymouth Landfill at 1991 W. Plymouth Ave. in DeLand.

The sites are open to all county residents and people must bring identification to prove their residency.
