Bears RB D’Andre Swift and WR Keenan Allen expect to play Sunday

Running back D’Andre Swift and receiver Keenan Allen both expect to play for the Bears against the Vikings on Sunday despite their injuries.

Swift, who finished last week’s game after suffering a groin injury, practiced in full Friday after being limited Thursday and out Wednesday. Allen felt some ankle stiffness during Friday’s practice, but plans to play. Both were listed as questionable Friday.

Swift rushed 14 times for 71 yards and a 39-yard touchdown Sunday. New offensive coordinator Thomas Brown leaned on backup Roschon Johnson last week, especially in short yardage — his 10 carries tied a career high. Johnson said this week that he prepares the same way whether Swift plays or not. It’s a habit he learned at Texas, when he played behind all-world running back Bijan Robinson for three years.

“Whether it’s who’s up, who’s up, I’m the same way every week,” Johnson said. “I definitely adapted that mindset to college.”

Guard Ryan Bates is still out of concussion protocol and will not play. Teven Jenkins, who was a full participant for the second straight day after injuring his ankle two weeks ago, will start.

With safety Elijah Hicks out with an ankle injury, the Bears will turn to Jonathan Owens as the starter. He replaced Hicks after leaving Sunday’s game.

Tackle Kiran Amegadjie is questionable as he continues to recover from a calf injury.
