Maven explains why WWE ‘backed off’ over difficulty of training during season one

Maven talks pretty tough.

Tough Enough will always be synonymous with Maven, as the star was the male winner of the show’s first season in 2001. The show’s first season is also known by many fans for being rather chaotic, as a number of contestants quit the series during the season.

John Bradshaw Layfield Reflects on Eddie Guerrero’s Life and Wishes He Was Still Here

Speaking to Conrad Thompson on the latest edition of The False Finish (via commercial-free broadcasts)Maven first talked about the editing style of the show and how they would only pick up on the little things.

“When they were editing it, when they were telling us to do things over and over again, it was usually like when we got out of the two explorers and went into a restaurant or something, they didn’t get the shot that they had. researched. Little things like that, the trivial things are what they would pick up and edit. The in-ring stuff, the training aspect, they told a good story and a true story.”

Maven then recalled the show struggling with the number of people quitting on the spot.

“I think they were scared because we started with thirteen contestants. The original plan was that every week they would send someone to the house, fold up their chair and put it against the wall. To start with thirteen contestants , I think it was within two”. weeks, five people resigned. When that happened, I think they had to reshuffle the band and say, “Woah, we’re avoiding not having a show.” If everyone quits, we’ve wasted a lot of money and time. “At that point, they kind of backed away from the difficulty of the training and got to the point where they could start eliminating people.

Elsewhere in the interview, Maven said that Dave Bautista is the best wrestler turned actor. Discover his full comments on the subject in by clicking here.

At the time of publication, WWE Tough Enough has its final season in 2015.
