Why Candace Cameron Bure Almost Gave Up Acting

By a Movieguide® contributor

Candace Cameron Bure recalled that she almost gave up acting because her husband Val found it difficult to watch her get close to other men on screen.

“It’s something that Val and I struggled with a lot in our marriage,” Bure said, by Church leaders. “Even if you kiss me at the end, I really don’t like seeing you close to anyone else. And I understand that, so we’ve had these struggles and a lot of conversations and prayers.

Bure ultimately decided that she would rather give up acting than damage her relationship with her husband for the sake of a role. She began turning down film offers because they involved a romantic relationship with another man.

“It was hard”, Bure said. “Even as I pray this prayer, I’m on the side, I say, ‘But God, but I really wish you wouldn’t let me give it up.'”

God answered his prayer when Val realized Bure was giving up his roles for him. They came to a compromise that she could get into these films on the condition that the most she would go physically was kissing and Val wouldn’t have to watch the films.

“It feels like years of discussing this topic,” Bure said. “Then he got to a point where he said, ‘I can handle it and I don’t want you to give up your whole career.'”

This compromise on both sides allowed the Lord to work through Bure, as she has since starred in dozens of films pointing to God. Even when her films are not explicitly Christian, she makes sure they contain elements that reflect her truth.

“As I’ve changed careers, I’ve been able to insert more of a faith-based narrative into certain films. I always want to nod to the real reason for the season as a person of faith,” Bure explain.

“I think this has been very important to me, and it doesn’t have to be an exaggeration, but at least while we’re looking for love on the farm…let’s recognize that we celebrate Christmas because Jesus came to shut up. world and was the Savior of the world, you know, was born a baby on Earth and lived a perfect life and willingly sacrificed himself so that we could all be reconciled to God,” she continued. “Now, I might not say all of this in the movie, but I just want to acknowledge what Christmas is in that sense.”

Bure’s upcoming Christmas film, HOME SWEET CHRISTMAS, firsts on GAF on December 1st.

“For HOME SWEET CHRISTMAS, Cameron Mathison and I had wanted to do a Christmas movie together for so long, and we finally found a script that I thought was really cute. We play two childhood friends who have known each other forever, and it seemed natural because Cameron and I have known each other for a very long time and it’s a very beautiful story,” she said. said For women first. “It’s more faithful to a traditional Christmas romantic comedy, whereas A CHRISTMAS LESS TRIP has a bit more of a thread of faith throughout the film.”
