Panchkula: In the wake of enormous pending property taxesthe Panchkula municipal corporation has identified 43 government departments whose dues exceed Rs 2 lakh, and around 30 private offices whose pending dues exceed Rs 5 lakh.
The MC will now write a semi-official letter to these government departments and issue a second notice to private commercial agencies. property tax defaulters.
According to MC’s updated figures as of November 21, property in Sector 29 and 30 of the Ministry of Defense owes Rs 5.23 crore in taxes, Indian Institute of Soil Water Conservation in Mansa Complex Devi Rs 2.12 crore, Police Colony Rs 1.11 lakh, Department of School Education, Sector 5, CBSE board, Rs 46.83 lakh and other different buildings of Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) owes Rs 1.42 crore in property tax. These are among the 43 departments which have huge amounts pending. “We followed them. Some had released a certain amount earlier, and we have updated those numbers. With revised estimates, we will draft new DOs,” said an MC official.
Regarding defaulting private commercial spaces, the MC has sealed several properties for non-payment despite repeated formal notices. From now on, 30 of these buildings will receive a second notice to settle their contributions. If this is not done, the process of sealing the premises will begin.
So far, the MC has collected Rs 13.25 crore as property tax in the current financial year and is yet to recover Rs 82 crore. In the last fiscal year, the MC recovered Rs 18.50 crore, which is the highest recovery. Before this, the civic body had never recovered more than Rs 9-10 crore in a single financial year. “We are confident that this financial year we will recover more than what we recovered last time. There are still four months left for this exercise,” said an MC official.
The deadline for paying the direct debit with a 10% rebate is July 31 of each year. After that, 18% interest is charged for non-payment and no discount benefits are available.
