Indian captain Jasprit Bumrah helped India complete a memorable comeback in the first Test against Australia at the Optus Stadium in Perth. India were down after being bowled out for 150, but Boomrah scared the life out of him in what seemed a dead game for India. He put on a sensational bowling display and shook the Australian top order, taking the wickets of Nathan McSweeney, Usman Khawaja, Steve Smith, Alex Carey and Pat Cummins.

Bumrah’s superb show helped India take a healthy lead of 46 runs in the first innings after the Australians were bowled out for 104. Things could have been worse for Australia if Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood didn’t had not formed a handy 25-run partnership that got the better of Australia. the 100-race mark. The lead is significant in the Test because the conditions are not the easiest to beat.

Jasprit Bumrah at the forefront of history

Meanwhile, Bumrah could have created history in the first innings if Rishabh Pant had caught Josh Hazlewood, which would have been Bumrah’s sixth in the innings. Bumrah, however, will have a chance to reach this milestone in the second innings. The ace Pacer needs just one more wicket to become the leading wicket-taker in Tests this year. He currently has 46 wickets to his name in Tests in 2024, most of them alongside R Ashwin, and a wicket in the second innings would put him at the top of the list. Bumrah would ideally want to take four or more wickets in the innings as he would thus become the first player to take 50 Test wickets in 2024.

Why is the Perth Test a must for India?

Meanwhile, the Perth Test is a must-win for India in terms of the World Test Championship final. India’s chances of reaching the summit were reduced after a 0-3 loss to New Zealand at home. For most of the year, India looked favorites to make the final, but the shocking defeat set them back. This also left India with the daunting task of winning the Border-Gavaskar Trophy by a margin of at least 4-0 to have a chance. A victory in the first Test will significantly boost India’s confidence.
