A new updated WASPI on compensation owed has been released – the next few weeks would be ‘crucial’ in the fight for a £2,950 payout. WASPI women have issued a warning via Twitternow X, as the fight for payments from the Department for Work and Pensions ( DWP ) continues.

He said: “As the Prime Minister indicates a decision on #WASPI compensation is imminent, the next few weeks are crucial for the 3.6 million women affected. Please sign and share widely our petition calling on the government to take action.

A petition has garnered 6,000 signatures, with a target of 10,000 signatures, and organizers say: “We are calling on the government to fairly compensate WASPI women affected by the increase in their state pension age and associated failures in DWP communications.

“We want the government to urgently respond to the PHSO report and put in place a compensation scheme by March 21, 2025. In March 2024, the Parliamentary and Health Services Ombudsman said that women born in the 1950s were to obtain financial redress and an apology due to the poor administration of the DWP.

“The Ombudsman’s findings have been supported by the cross-party Work and Pensions Select Committee, hundreds of MPs and, according to our poll, 68% of the population. However, only the Government has the power to remedy this injustice We have calculated that with one affected woman dying every 13 minutes, there is no time to wait any longer.”

At 10,000 signatures, the government will respond to this petition. At 100,000 signatures, this petition will be examined for debate in Parliament. The PHSO suggested that level four compensation, of between £1,000 and £2,950, could be appropriate for each of those affected – Birmingham live reports.

Asked by journalists during his trip to the G20 summit in Brazil why compensation was taking so long, the Prime Minister said: ‘The DWP secretary will make a statement on this in the not too distant future.’ . He added: “This is obviously a very serious report, and the response will be defined by the DWP secretary.”
