State Department says Russia, China maintain momentum in bilateral relations – World

WASHINGTON, November 23. /TASS/. The US administration believes that Moscow and Beijing have maintained the momentum in their bilateral relations, said US First Deputy Secretary of State Kurt Campbell, adding that these relations should continue.

“I’m not sure we could have avoided, hindered or disrupted this growing (Russia-China) alliance, but we tried and, at an ultimate level, China and Russia chose this path together in a way that will animate world politics which is only now”, he said during a seminar at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington (the activities of this organization are recognized as undesirable on the territory of the Russian Federation).

Moscow and Beijing “have maintained the momentum in their bilateral relations,” the diplomat noted, adding that he “expects this to continue.”

In 2012, Chinese President Xi Jinping, then vice president, “entered the international scene,” he said. “We are starting to see a much deeper commitment from both leaders, from Xi (Jinping) and (Russian President Vladimir) Putin, to meet and engage in dialogue. I think we have underestimated that,” he said. Campbell said, adding that Putin and Xi Jinping “think they have a lot to offer each other.”

“You can go through a whole series of capabilities that have been built quietly, deep beneath the surface, between China and Russia, and that has changed the nature of the battlefield in fundamental ways. And it doesn’t just change the position of Russia on the Ukrainian question,” the diplomat stressed.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on November 19 that the meeting between Xi Jinping and Putin at the BRICS summit in Kazan laid a strategic foundation for the next level of development of bilateral relations, adding that China is ready to work with Russia to further strengthen bilateral relations. cooperation and cohesion, contribute to the steady development of the China-Russia comprehensive strategic coordination partnership, and support the development and rebirth of their countries as well as the reform of the global governance system.
