The most beautiful country in Europe becomes the first to register a trademark | Travel News | Journey

Sweden, recognized as one of the most beautiful countries in Europe, has done something that no other country in the world has done.

To protect its valuable identity, the country has filed a trademark application with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO).

The branding decision was made because the country wanted to prevent travelers wanting to explore Sweden from being confused by international duplicates. And now the country is asking citizens around the world to support the bid by signing an online petition.

The Swedish trademark application would ensure that enthusiastic travelers preparing for a trip to the country’s beautiful landscapes, filled with lakes and forests, do not end up in another random location.

While this may seem silly, it is also somewhat valid.

According to a study by Visit Sweden, almost 45% of UK travelers said they found planning trips to destinations with the same name as elsewhere confusing.

Not only that, but 7% ended up going to the wrong place and so Sweden wants to stop the 7.4 million Brits who have this country on their bucket list from going to the wrong place.

Susanne Andersson, CEO of Visit Sweden, said: “It is flattering that others want to be called Sweden, but we would prefer there to be just one. Our Sweden. The one with lakes, islands, forests and the best flat-pack furniture in the world.

Currently, there is only one other place in the world besides the European country called Sweden, and that’s a city on the other side of the world, New York.

Swedes and travelers to the UK are on board with the idea of a trademark of the country itself. 45% of young Brits think it’s a great way to avoid location confusion.

The CEO of Visit Sweden added: “We want everyone to join us, sign the petition and help travelers discover the one and only and original Sweden. »
