What is the Strictly Come Dancing Sambathon? The “Chaotic” competition returns live

Strictly Come Dancing Sambathon Week is finally here, which means we’re in for a night full of excitement, glitter and lots of Bota Fogos.

Fellow Strictly stars – Montell Douglas, Sarah Hadland, Pete Wicks, Tasha Ghouri, Chris McCausland, JB Gill and Jamie Borthwick – will hit the ballroom this Saturday, November 23 for a high-energy dance alongside their partners .

It’s the first time since 2018 that Strictly producers have decided to bring back the often chaotic dance week.

After their main dance of the show, the couples will all perform simultaneously to impress the judges with their samba moves and get the most points.

This means the ballroom will be full and the stars will have to pull out all the stops to make their samba skills stand out from the rest of the cast.

Dance-a-thons were a staple of previous seasons of Strictly, but they didn’t always go as planned. For example, in 2018, during the Lindy Hop-a-thon, technical difficulties destabilized the judges and led them to announce poor results.

But it looks like this year the team is ready. Here’s everything you need to know.

Dance-a-thons are strictly group challenges, where couples all dance at the same time while trying to earn extra points from the judges.

This is similar to what traditional ballroom and Latin dance competitions would look like, where there are often many participants on the floor at the same time.

Throughout the Strictly seasons there have been many variations: such as the Lindy hop-a-thon, the Quickstep-a-thon and a Walz-a-thon. However, the competition was abandoned after season 16.

As the name suggests, a Samba-thon involves all remaining participants dancing samba, a high-energy Latin American dance originating from Brazil.

How will celebrities be rated?

After their main performances, all the stars will come together to participate in the Samba-thon alongside the rest of the cast.

They will all dance at the same time before the judges eliminate them one by one. The first couple eliminated will receive one point, while the second will receive two and so on.

The winner of the Samba-thon is the couple who remains last on the field and will receive seven points.

These points are added to the night’s wider scores, which could have a huge impact on the scoreboards.

What happened the last time Strictly had one?

The Strictly 2018 dance-a-thon was chaotic, to say the least.

Even the official Strictly account admitted that things didn’t go as planned at the time, recently writing on social media: “The last #Strictly dance-a-thon was an absolute disaster, so it doesn’t Can only get better from here, right?

Although the show went well, the problem lay in the judging afterwards.

Head Judge Shirley Ballas’ tablet seemed to freeze, so she couldn’t read the scores as she had expected — and they had no choice but to resort to pen and paper.

Ballas then named Ashley Roberts and Pasha Kovalev first – even though she was supposed to say who came last in the competition.

More errors followed, but the team initially managed to fix the problem. Hopefully this year’s rendering will go a little smoother.
