Music maestro AR Rahman and his wife Saira Banu announced their separation a few days ago. They made the decision to end their 29-year marriage, citing “significant emotional strain” in their relationship. After the announcement, several defamatory theories and rumors surfaced on the Internet. Now, AR Rahman’s legal team has issued a notice to the ‘slanderers’ to remove objectionable content and defamatory and concocted stories about the couple. AR Rahman’s lawyer said failure to do so would result in legal action and appropriate defamation action would be taken against anyone who contributed such false content.

The letter shared by AR Rahman mentions that he informed about the dissolution of the marriage through a social media post. “Despite being noticed, some social media platforms and several YouTubers have started a series of slanderous and defamatory articles on the same subject with their own concocted and fertile imaginary stories about their private lives. There were also interviews from some very busy bodies about their own views on the failure of their married life. There is no need to reproduce each and every statement issued on the social media platform intended to spread knowledge and awareness,” the letter said.

“My client requests me to inform him that there is not one iota of truth in any of the programs, interviews attributing obscene contents with the aim of harming my client’s reputation and also harming his family. This only shows that social media people who intend to damage my client’s reputation are content with their productions and make up highly imaginary and false stories to defame my client just for their cheap and short-lived publicity.” , said AR Rahman’s lawyer.

“Hate mongers” have been advised to remove objectionable content within an hour and for a maximum of 24 hours. The letter further states that Rahman has directed his legal team to initiate appropriate defamation action against anyone who contributed such false content on any media platform.

On November 20, AR Rahman announced the separation in a post shared on X (formerly Twitter). He wrote: “We had hoped to reach thirty miles, but it seems that everything has an invisible end. Even the throne of God could tremble under the weight of broken hearts. Yet, in this fragmentation, we search for meaning, even if the pieces may not find their place. To our friends, thank you for your kindness and for respecting our privacy as we navigate this fragile chapter.” #arrsairaabreakup.” After the announcement, AR Rahman and Saira Banu’s children – daughters Khatija and Raheema and son AR Ameen – asked fans to respect the family’s privacy during this time.
