An update has been released on a man who is fighting for his life after being placed in an induced coma while on holiday in Benidorm. Andrew Frazer, 43, from Sutton, Saint Helenatraveled to Benidorm for his brother Ian’s birthday celebration on November 13th.

But at 1 a.m. on November 14 – not even 24 hours after landing in the popular resort – sister-in-law Claire Howard said Andrew was lost consciousness on the street and was rushed to hospital with a head injury. As the stepfather of two did not have travel insurance, Claire said his wound was stapled and he was sent back to his hotel without notice. CT scan.

The next day, his condition worsened and he was taken to another hospital, where a CT scan revealed a serious brain hemorrhage. Claire rushed to Benidorm with her sister Carrie but returned to Merseyside on Tuesday, November 19, while Carrie remained in Benidorm at Andrew’s bedside. Andrew had to undergo an emergency craniotomy, a surgical procedure that removes part of the skull to access the brain. He remains in the hospital in an induced coma as he fights for his life.

Following the tragedy, a fundraiser was organized to raise money to bring Andrew back to the UK for treatment. Now his sister-in-law Claire has told the ECHO that Andrew will return home on Wednesday or Thursday, returning to Merseyside.

She said: “When he comes back, he will be in the Walton Center immediately. His friend Shaun was in contact with the repatriation company and sorted everything out. He was a very good friend.”

Following Andrew’s injury, Shaun McKeegan created a GoFundMe to help fund his friend’s repatriation. The process is estimated to cost between £25,000 and £28,000, with the fundraiser managing to raise more than £28,000 in three days.

Claire told the ECHO that Andrew is now paralyzed on the right side of his body and is unable to speak as he remains in intensive care in Spain. She previously told the ECHO: “Andrew may have to go to some sort of care home for rehab – he can’t walk, can’t talk. The fundraiser is for a medical flight, which was estimated to us at between £25,000 and £28,000. You’re worried about how you’re going to do it, how you’re going to get the funds.

“Andrew’s mum and dad are retired, they don’t have passports, so they’re worried sick. It’s been horrible. We’re just trying to keep things together as a family, keep in touch with each other and to continue.

“As Andrew is in intensive care, you are only allowed to visit him for an hour and only one person is allowed in. Carrie wants to spend all her time with him, but Ian is her brother and wants to be there too. Ian hasn’t been home since it happened. He’s there constantly.

“I know it’s a difficult time for everyone right now, but if anyone could help, no matter how small the donation, I can’t explain what that would mean.”
