PAI closes 4 commercial organizations and warns 25 companies

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 23: The Public Authority for Industry (PAI) has issued 25 warnings to companies and commercial establishments for violating laws and executive regulations related to industrial projects and safety requirements. In addition, four commercial establishments were closed for non-compliance with these regulations. In the same vein, the Minister of Trade and Industry, Khalifa Al-Ajeel, renewed the mandate of the Standing Committee for the appointment of conformity assessment bodies within the public authority for the ‘industry. The committee is chaired by the Deputy Director General of Specifications and Industrial Services and has eight members representing the Ministry of Trade and Industry and the public authority responsible for industry.

The committee’s responsibilities include: Establishing standards and requirements for evaluating and appointing conformity assessment bodies, including inspection entities, product certification bodies, laboratories and other related bodies. Review and update technical regulations and related documents. Review applications and documents submitted by conformity assessment bodies seeking appointment. The committee is also responsible for carrying out evaluations, inspections and regular follow-ups with candidate organizations and entities already named. This ensures that appointment processes are transparent and up to standard. In addition, the committee is authorized to make decisions regarding the appointment of new conformity assessment bodies, allowing them to carry out compliance investigations. To resolve the disputes, a separate standardization committee was established to look into grievances related to the decisions of the nomination committee. This committee handles complaints and can suspend or revoke appointments if the appointed entities do not meet the required standards.
