1.64 lakh challans issued for vehicles without PUC certificates from October

Over 1.64 lakh challans amounting to Rs 164 crore were issued in the national capital against vehicles lacking valid pollution under control certificates, or PUCs, from October 1 to November 22. According to traffic police data, a total of 3.87 lakh of these are vehicle owners. have been challenged for the offense this year. The challan for traveling without PUCC is Rs 10,000.

Police seized 6,531 10- and 15-year-old gasoline and diesel vehicles this winter, the press release said. Police also pursued 872 vehicles transporting construction and demolition waste and other related materials without adequate coverage this winter, while the number rose to 1,413 for the entire year through November 22.

The fine for the offense is Rs 20,000. Special Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Ajay Chaudhary said, “The significant increase in the number of challans reflects our commitment to ensure compliance with pollution norms. Strict enforcement is necessary to reduce vehicular pollution and help improve air quality in the city.

Since the implementation of GRAP-4 on November 18, a total of 20,743 challans have been issued for not having PUCC. Police also seized 736 excess vehicles during this period. Since October 15, a total of 13,762 trucks not intended for approach to Delhi have been diverted via the Eastern and Western Peripheral Expressways.
