Trump’s old pick to destroy the Education Department loves his new one

What a surprise. Trump’s former education secretary Betsy DeVoswho did everything she could has destroy the department the last time he was in powerwholeheartedly love Linda McMahon’s new choice.

DeVos, who at one point was apparently sane enough to realize it was time to jump ship after the insurrection and actually discussed the possibility of invoking the 25th Amendment to impeach Trump from office after unleashing his henchmen at the US Capitol- has once again become a full-fledged MAGA supporter.

Now she’s all in, and hopes Trump’s choice of McMahon will finish the job of destroying public education in the United States that she failed to accomplish. Here’s DeVos on Fox no news this week, gushing about McMahon’s selection.

MACCALLUM: What is your reaction to the appointment of Linda McMahon to this education position?

DEVOS: Well, I think it’s a great date. Linda is a proven leader with a ton of experience. She did a great job at SBA. She cares about children and education and we all know the Department of Education is a mess.

She failed in her mission and she will do an excellent job implementing the policies championed by President Trump, starting with educational freedom, tax credit policy around school choice and cleaning and clarification of Title Nine.

And this issue of men in women’s bathrooms, in women’s sports, cleaning up the mess that is Federal Student Aid and the FAFSA, the whole FAFSA rollout debacle, and then, more importantly, coming back. .. returning state and local power over decision-making and resources to do the best thing for children at the most local level, delegating it to Washington and taking bureaucrats out of the mix.

MACCALLUM: So there is a Children’s Education Choice Act that would be a prime option for federal schools that Congress could consider. Where are we? And it seems like it’s a high priority. President-elect Trump mentioned that this decision – choosing a federal school – was one of his top priorities.

DEVOS: Yes, absolutely. It continues to gain support on Capitol Hill and, of course, it needs Congressional support and approval to be implemented. This would provide fuel for what states are already doing and provide a vehicle for students in states that have not yet implemented policies to support these choices in some of those states. This is a really, really important part of the president’s agenda, and I think the next Congress is going to deliver on it.

MACCALLUM: So would you say that the order of things should be to pass that and then eliminate the Department of Education?

DEVOS: Well, there are a number of things that need to be cleaned up within the department before serious steps can be taken to dismantle it or move it out of Washington. And of course, shutting it down requires Congressional approval, but there are many steps that can be taken to undo what’s happening in Washington and to hold states and local districts and, more importantly, parents and families accountable. at the most local level.

But these things all need to happen at the same time and/or in succession, starting with cleaning up the FAFSA and student loan debacle, and then everything else can actually be fixed by block grants to states and taking care of the situation. laws that the Ministry of Education must supervise.

There was negative reaction to much of what DeVos tried to pass when Trump was in office for the first time. We’ll see how much the leopards like their faces eaten this time around when it’s McMahon doing Trump’s bidding instead of DeVos.

If anyone needed more proof McMahon was a great choice for a whole host of reasonsyou can add DeVos’ endorsement to the list.
