How a digital “you” can attend your agonizing web conference calls

Now you can look like you’re on a Zoom call in your office, even while you’re sipping a margarita in a hammock far, far away. Courtesy of a months-old startup called Brineits pitch is simple: Just submit a five-minute training video of yourself creating an avatar, and within 24 hours, you’re good to go. Do you want to call your colleagues from the car? No problem. Too lazy to get out of bed? No problem. At a beach club? You’re probably pushing it, but judging by the demo video, it’s also ideal if no one on the call is paying special attention to “you.” (The service is currently available in Basic, Standard, and Professional versions, ranging from approximately $300 per year to $1,150 per year.)

Backed by young Los Angeles venture capital firm Krew Capital, the technology currently only works with MacOS, Pickle says, although she says a Windows version will arrive next month. As for conferencing apps users can choose from, they include Zoom, Google Meet and Teams, Pickle says, adding on its site that “due to high demand, clone generation is currently delayed.”
