Strictly Come Dancing live: Just seven couples left as competition enters week 10

Strictly’s Chris McCausland and Dianne Buswell in tears after judge’s score in Blackpool

There are only seven candidates left in the running. Strictly Come Dance competition, after a tense week in Blackpool which saw Wynne Evans and partner Katya Jones eliminated.

The remaining couples returned to the ballroom at Elstree Studios this week, where standards continue to rise and competition heats up.

Last week, Sarah Hadland, Tasha Ghouri and Chris McCausland took the top three spots on the leaderboard, with scores of 39, 39 and 37, respectively.

This week, Ghouri and Aljaž Škorjanec dance an American Smooth to “Someone You Loved” by Lewis Capaldi, while Montell Douglas and his professional partner Johannes Radebe perform a Quickstep to “Get Happy” by Ella Fitzgerald.

In the Tango corner, Pete Wicks and Jowita Przystał dance to “Easy Lover” by Philip Bailey and Phil Collins, and JB Gill and Lauren Oakley – who replaced Amy Dowden – do a Charleston to “Yes Sir!” That’s My Baby” from Firehouse Five Plus Two.

How does the Samba-thon take place?

Tonight’s episode will include an additional, never-before-seen special feature Strictly since 2018.

It seems simple enough and yet it can so easily descend into chaos. Dance-a-thons are a regular feature of real-world dance competitions and championships and involve all couples dancing (in this case, doing a samba) at the same time. The judges will then eliminate the couples one by one until only the winners remain. Basically, it’s exactly the same as the dance competition in Fat.

And it’s not just for fun. The couples’ ranking will be converted into points and added to their scores, so the Samba-thon has the potential to change the ranking.

Viewers disagreed on last week’s score

Viewers were conflicted over the judges’ score on last week’s show.

Judge Craig Revel-Horwood awarded TOWIE star Pete Wicks a brutal score of four, which left some viewers angry. Others, however, thought it was fair.

Recap: Everything that happened last week

Last week was Blackpool Week, which saw the departure of opera singer Wynne Evans and her partner Katya Jones.

Meanwhile, Tasha Ghouri and Aljaž Škorjanec retained their position at the top of the rankings for the third week in a row with their Paso Doble. They were joined at the top of the leaderboard by Hadland and Vito Coppola who also scored 39 points for their performance.

Right behind them was comedian Chris McCausland who achieved his highest score of the series for his American Smooth to Paul Anka’s “Jump”, which left his professional partner Dianne Buswell in tears of joy.

At the other end of the scale was Pete Wicks who scored 27 points for his Cha Cha to Right Said Fred’s “I’m Too Sexy.”

The reality star was praised for insulating her upper body. However, his “entertaining” hip action left the judges in fits of laughter.

Can Ghouri, Hadland and McCausland maintain their places in the top three this week?
