Foundation raises $40,000 for Lenoir County teachers

LENOIR COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – Teachers in one eastern Carolina county received $40,000 in grants from a local foundation.

According to Lenoir County Public Schools, the Lenoir County Education Foundation has partnered with the district to support teachers and foster a strong educational environment for students.

“The Lenoir County Education Foundation continues to support our schools and staff to ensure our students receive the best education possible,” said Chamber of Commerce President Cale Grady. “For over 30 years, LCEF has raised funds through the support of our community to improve educational opportunities for our students. »

According to LCPS, the primary way the foundation supports teachers is by offering mini-grants to teachers.

Superintendent Brent Williams said, “The Lenoir County Education Mini-Grant program is a great example of strong community support for our schools and the children we serve. Our teachers work hard to write and submit winning mini-grant proposals to secure funding to enhance teaching in their classrooms by providing additional learning experiences and opportunities for students.

This year, the foundation held its annual golf tournament and adult spelling bee to raise money for the mini-grants.

“Friendly competitions like the golf tournament and adult spelling bee ignite passion and creativity, transforming fundraising into a spirited challenge that not only raises money, but also celebrates community and collaboration,” said Rebecca McGann, LCPS public information officer.

Williams agreed, saying, “As a school system, we would like to thank House Speaker Cale Grady, the Lenoir County Education Foundation, the Board of Trustees and members of the Lenoir County Chamber of Commerce. Lenoir County President Dr. Rusty Hunt and Lenoir Community College. the team, the teams of planners and organizers who worked on both events for months, as well as all the participants in the golf tournament and spelling bee. These were two exceptional events that constitute great examples of school-community partnerships and a real plea to provide our young people with the best educational opportunities and experiences that we can offer.

Grady also says he would like to thank LCPS and Lenoir Community College for their support and collaboration, as well as the community sponsors and volunteers who helped make these fundraisers possible.
