Sixty-two players were without call for tender before Friday’s 8 p.m. deadline so MLB teams can tender a contract to the players under team control for the 2025 season.

This is how these 62 players became free agents.

Here are five new free agents Detroit Tigers might be interested, given their need pitchers in various roles and at least one right-handed hitter:

Age: 33.

Not tendered by: Washington Nationals.

Arbitration projection: $8.6 million.

The buzz: Finnegan, an All-Star reliever in 2024, posted a 3.68 ERA with 24 walks and 60 strikeouts in 63⅔ innings in 65 games last season, accumulating 38 saves in 43 chances. His fastball sits around 97 mph, but he ranked below average in strikeout rate (22.1%), walk rate (8.9%), and walk rate. swing and miss (23.1%) – similar to the Tigers reliever. Jason Foley. Still, Finnegan has the potential to exploit more whiffs with his splitter and slider. He owns a 3.56 ERA in 291 games during his five-year MLB career, including 88 saves in 109 opportunities and a 23.3% strikeout rate over the last four seasons.

Age: 29.

Not tendered by: Philadelphia Phillies.

Arbitration projection: $6.4 million.

The buzz: Hays, an All-Star in 2023, hit .255 with five home runs, nine walks and 59 strikeouts in 85 games during the 2024 season, posting an OPS of .699. From 2021 to 2023, Hays hit .261 with an average of 18 home runs and 140 games per season. The red flag: He has a history of swings and misses: chasing pitches out of the strike zone, striking out too many times and not drawing enough walks. But Hayes can play all three outfield positions with plus defense in left field. He crushes left-handed pitchers, hitting .354 with a .941 OPS against lefties in 2024. (The Baltimore Orioles traded Hays to the Phillies at the July 30 trade deadline for a right-handed reliever. Seranthony Dominguez and outfielder Christian Pache.)

Age: 30.

Not tendered by: Atlanta Braves.

Arbitration projection: $6.1 million.

The buzz: Laureano hit .259 with 11 home runs, 15 walks and 96 strikeouts in 98 games during the 2024 season, recording a .748 OPS. He struggled so much that he was released by the Cleveland Guardians in late May. Four days later, the Braves got him back – and he became one of their best players over the final four months of the season, hitting .296 with 10 home runs and an .832 OPS in 67 games. But Laureano was terrible in terms of walk rate (4.9%) and strikeout rate (31.1%). He is an average defender at all three outfield positions, with above average arm strength.

Age: 31.

Not tendered by: Toronto Blue Jays.

Arbitration projection: $7.75 million.

The buzz: Romano, an All-Star reliever in 2022 and 2023, posted a 6.59 ERA with four walks and 13 strikeouts in 13⅔ innings during the 2024 season, recording eight saves in nine opportunities. He underwent season-ending arthroscopic surgery for right elbow impingement in early July after two stints on the injured list. Romano was one of the best finishers from 2021 to 2023, during which he had a 2.37 ERA with an 8.6% walk rate and a 27.8% strikeout rate in 186 sleeves. His four-seam fastball sits at 96-97 mph and he misses bats at an elite rate with his nasty slider. He is the ideal candidate to bounce back in the playoffs, provided he is healthy.

Age: 28.

Not tendered by: Los Angeles Angels.

Arbitration projection: $5.9 million.

The buzz: Sandoval, a mid-rotation starter, underwent Tommy John surgery in late June and will miss most of the 2025 season, as he likely won’t return to the big leagues until August at the earliest. In 2024, Sandoval posted a 5.08 ERA in 16 starts before elbow surgery. He threw his fastball at 93.7 mph, missed bats at an average rate of 26.5 percent and induced ground balls at an above-average rate of 45.7 percent. Sandoval is up for a two-year contract with the hope of being healthy for a month or two in 2025 and the hope of contributing for all of 2026.
