Are these characters missing from Dynasty Warriors Origins?

47 (forty-seven). This is the total number of Musou Officers – the official term for unique fighting characters – that Koei Tecmo and Omega Force have. specified In Origins of Dynasty Warriors. This number is also exactly half that Warriors of Dynasty 9 list, which had 94 characters. Since then, we have known all the characters in this list. But while most of the missing characters are due to time period constraints, some of them are actually set in the time period covered and thus can add depth to the story. Origins of Dynasty Warriors in question.

The PS2 era Dynasty Warriors entries covered events up to the Battle of Wuzhang Plains in AD 234. Warriors of Dynasty 7 from there, coverage was extended to the fall of the Shu kingdom in 264 AD. However, Origins“Producer Tomohiko Sho revealed that the new game will only last until the Battle of Chi Bi/Red Cliffs in 208 AD.

This naturally means that characters born or debuted after 208 AD have no chance of appearing here. I also noticed a general aversion to bringing children outside of Sun Jian’s family, like Cao Pi and Guan Ping. Additionally, the protagonist’s perspective will shift away from the Han coalition to follow one of the three main faction leaders of the time. This means that the game will not appear to feature events outside of these viewpoints, such as Ma Chao’s debut shortly after Dong Zhuo’s assassination in the Romance of the Three Kingdoms novel.

However, all the missing characters Origins of Dynasty Warriors” The list might match the reasons above. A few of them have notable episodes in the timeline covered by the game, but they are still missing from the list.

For example, when Tomohiko Sho revealed that Zhuge Liang’s wife Yueyinghe added that she will be the only female character in Liu Bei’s faction. This sentence pretty much excludes Xiahouji, Xiahou Yuan’s niece who is also Zhang Fei’s eventual wife. The two men will have their chance meeting in the year 200 AD, which still corresponds to Origins“Timeline covered.

We also saw Zhenji appearing both in combat and event scenes. However, the absence of her future husband, Cao Pi, casts doubt on her importance in the storyline. I would have liked to see Cai Wenji take this position instead. She could have been featured in a secondary scene based on an episode from 207 AD where Cao Cao ransomed her from the Xiongnu tribe. Additionally, she brings no additional baggage as no other member of her immediate family has become a unique character in the series.

On the other side of the Sun family, Da Qiao had already suffered the fate of being forgotten in Warriors of Dynasty 6The list of, with his sister Xiao Qiao making the cut. But this time, none of the sisters are on the list. This would add a question about how Omega Force will handle the backdrop of the Battle of Chi Bi, as Cao Cao’s interest in the Qiao sisters has been presented as one of the motives for the campaign.

Dong Bai in Dynasty Warriors 9

Aside from the three main factions, Dong Zhuo’s granddaughter Dong Bai is one of the unlisted characters in Origins of Dynasty Warriors despite its appearance in Dynasty Warriors Explosion And Warriors of Dynasty 9. Although Dong Bai did not appear in Romance of the Three Kingdomsshe was mentioned in history Archives of the Three Kingdoms. His appearance is said to have helped portray another side of Dong Zhuo, who granted titles and privileges to his family when he was in power.

One of the biggest omissions from the list would be Lu Bu’s daughter, Lu Lingqi. The character has been gaining popularity in the Three Kingdoms fandom since Koei introduced her in the 2003 game. Dynasty 2 Tactics. Portraying Lu Bu’s daughter as a warrior similar to her father has become a staple in many Three Kingdoms-themed games, so removing her from the roster would seem out of touch.

I’ve mostly mentioned the female characters in the series above, but there are also several notable male characters missing from Origins of Dynasty Warriors” List of 47 characters. Lu Xun, Xu Sheng, and Ding Feng were among the list of people who recently joined Sun Quan when the latter took over the clan leadership in the early 200s. spotlight will be in later battles.

But some of the most notable omissions would come from Cao Cao’s faction. Man Chong worked under Cao Cao from the beginning. But even though he had little notable activity during the early battles, he was the very man responsible for recruiting the great general. Xu Huang in the ranks of Cao Cao.

However, no omission from the list is more shocking than the absence of Cao Ren. Historical notes suggested that the general often commanded separate units from Cao Cao’s main army, but the inclusion of Xu Shu requires the depiction of the latter’s one-time tactical support for Liu Bei, which turned into the Battle of Xinye in the novel. Although Li Dian also took part on the opposing side in this battle, there would be a huge void that could not be filled if Cao Ren himself did not appear as the army commander.

When I wrote this article, Omega Force was still gradually reintroduce all 16 characters appeared on the game’s official website. Therefore, it is still unclear whether the characters mentioned above will still appear or remain completely absent in Origins of Dynasty Warriors.

But after seeing Zhuge Liang’s teacher’s presentation Sima Hui as a new non-combatant NPC, this gave me a glimmer of hope that some of the above characters could still appear as event-exclusive NPCs. However, seeing warrior-type characters like Cao Ren and Lu Lingqi without any combat appearances would seem rather out of place.

Origins of Dynasty Warriors will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and PC worldwide on January 17, 2025.
