Tim Walz’s wife says putting tampons in every school bathroom helps kids learn to read

Gwen Walz, wife of Minnesota Governor and Democratic vice presidential candidate Tim Walz, said offering tampons in school bathrooms would help students learn to read during an appearance on Katie Couric’s podcast Sunday.

Couric asked Walz about her husband calling himself “Tampon Tim”, a nickname coined by conservatives after he signed a bill in his state that would put free menstrual products in all school bathrooms, including boys’.

“If kids are hungry at school, with the effects that has on the brain and learning, you won’t learn to read,” Walz said. “So if you’re talking about learning to read and filling in the gaps, you better remove the barriers for that. If they’re buffers, then they’re buffers, right?”

“Remove the barriers and let’s get to the real work, let’s not get lost in what the components are and, as some people would say, you know, level the playing field or whatever,” she said.

A columnist defends WALZ by putting tampons in boys’ rooms as a way for “King Stud” guys to give them to girls.

Legislation says menstrual products “must be available to all menstruating students in restrooms regularly used by students in grades 4 through 12, according to a plan developed by the school district.” Since then, the nickname “Tampon Tim” has been used to highlight his socially progressive views.

“Tim and I have always believed in removing barriers to learning and success, and whatever that barrier is, whether it’s free meals, menstrual products, or knowing who you are, everyone is everyone and some things look different to some people,” Walz said. . “People have different needs and have different resources, but everyone means everyone and all of us.”

“So it’s not a mess-free journey, but we looked at it like, ‘What do you need to move forward, what do you need to be happy and healthy and successful and how can we help you most effectively and best with this and then mind your own damn business, right?’” she continued. “So step away, because and I think those two plays probably describe Tim. He’s compassionate, he’s empathetic, he breaks down barriers.”

Walz continued, adding that schools should “provide what we need.”

“He does a great job at it, but I also think, you know, so he says ‘Whose business is this, think about it for yourself,’ now I have to put a quarter in the swear jar but pay attention to it yourself, like, let’s just focus on the really important issues that we need to solve, not get caught up in people’s personal affairs.”

“We view equity as providing people with what they need to get to a specific place where we can have this conversation,” she added.

Walz also discussed advice and support from second gentleman Doug Emhoff.

“He is such an amazing person and the way he supports his wife and empowers women and me is truly miraculous,” she said. “So, you know, he had a good sense of humor about things.”

Notably Emhoff faced allegations that he once slapped an ex-girlfriend “so hard she turned around” after she flirted with a valet and that he engaged in “inappropriate” behavior and ” misogynist” at the office of his Los Angeles law firm, according to the Daily Mail.

Emhoff’s first marriage ended following his affair with their children’s nanny, with whom he became pregnant, according to the Daily Mail. The nanny’s close friend told the outlet that she did not babysit the baby, but did not provide further details.
