It looks like 2025 will be a good year to be a Swarla fan, as new Coronation Street boss Kate Brooks has confirmed a long-term future for Carla Connor (Alison King) And Lisa Swain (Vicki Myers).

Viewers haven’t come down yet after seeing the couple give in to their obvious feelings for each other and, as Carla was about to be attacked, there would always be doubt that they could survive the turbulence to come.

After all, a soap loves nothing more than to give us what we want, then immediately rip it apart!

However, Kate is as invested in this couple as everyone else and told Metro that Swarla was becoming official, with neighbors finding out about the relationship in the run-up to Christmas.

“They’ve been around each other for a while, the attraction is there, the chemistry is palpable, they are both very strong, independent, stubborn, brilliant women, and they have found themselves attracted to each other,” the producer, also known as for his work on Emmerdale, explained.

“They’re the least likely person they think this could happen with, but they have a connection they can’t deny, so we’re absolutely going to play up their relationship!

“For Carla, it’s quite huge, she’s had a lot of history with men, a lot of failed relationships, a very colorful past and then she found herself in love with a woman and it completely blew her away, she doesn’t I understand it at first, but she kind of accepts it.

“I think it’s important for us to show that she doesn’t struggle with her sexuality, that she’s very confident in her sexuality, but that she fell in love with someone she doesn’t know about. I didn’t expect to fall in love, and that presents many challenges.

“Lisa has a lot of obstacles to overcome, she’s still grieving the loss of her wife, she’s so committed to her work and if anyone has problems with the relationship it’s initially Lisa who has a hard time letting go Carla see this vulnerability.

“You add Betsy, who is fabulous and feisty and painful in many ways but so wonderful, and Carla is in a completely different world. It’s really interesting to watch Carla navigate all of this because we know Carla, we love Carla, and these are completely foreign, unknown, uncharted waters, but yet she navigates them really well and it’s going to be an absolute adventure!’

She continued: “We want to keep them safe, we want to keep them grounded, we want to make this relationship really believable and it is, what I’ve seen on screen is fantastic between both of them.

At the heart of it all is a relationship, it’s a love story and they will inevitably find themselves facing many difficulties. 2025 is not a quiet year for them and many obstacles stand in their way, things that they had not really anticipated and which hinder their relationship, but in the end they emerge strong and united.

“I’m really excited to be with this couple on this journey, I think the drama and the story that they’ve already told us is immense and they’re going to bring us a lot more.”
