Former Chelsea player Emmanuel Petit has warned players targeted by the Blues to think very carefully before joining the club.

Chelsea have spent a lot of money and signed a lot of players since Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital took over in 2022.

The songs of Cole Palmer and Malo Gusto have had huge successes, but there are others like Kalidou Koulibaly who left after just one season.

Petit warns players to think twice before joining Chelsea

The Blues have built a team filled with some of the most exciting young talent in the world and there are signs that they could have something special over the next few years.

It’s still a work in progress as these young players continue to develop, although there is no guarantee they will become as good as the club believes possible.

Chelsea have already shown that they are willing to be ruthless with players and are not afraid to bench players or freeze them out.

Raheem Sterling was an example of this over the summer and Chelsea were ruthless in how they handled this situation, a decision Chris Sutton thinks it was the right solution.

Carney Chukwuemeka is another young talent the Blues have signed in 2022, but he’s simply not playing because the manager clearly doesn’t believe in him, with the midfielder perhaps now regretting joining the club given the way things happened.

The former Blue Petit issued a warning to players considering joining Chelsea and urged them to be very careful.

“If I was a footballer targeted by Chelsea, I would be very, very careful before making my decision,” he told Casino Hawks, quoted on X.com.

Petit is right and it is important for players to ask themselves whether Chelsea is the right move for them because as soon as they arrive they can just as easily be pushed aside given the high standards and fierce competition for places.
