To discourage noisy Halloween gatherings, the Shinjuku district banned alcohol consumption in and around the Kabukicho district from the evening of October 31 until the following morning. Last year, the neighboring Shibuya district asked people not to come to the area, leading many revelers to flock to Shinjuku. Shinjuku officials will ask convenience stores and other retailers to refrain from selling alcohol. We review history and learn Japanese expressions used when going out for a drink.
