Research continues in Montenegro: double murderer still at large

State Secretary of the Ministry of the Interior of Montenegro, Petar Koprivica, announced that the police in Bijelo Polje received only one report regarding Alija Balijagić, suspected of a double murder committed on Friday in the village of Sokolac.

He said the report was received the same day the murder was committed and police searched for him for five hours and warned residents.

Rade Cetković, a member of the Association of Judges of Montenegro, explained that Balijagić is free because he has served all his previous sentences, for which he was imprisoned for more than 35 years.

On Sunday, a thermal imaging helicopter was monitoring the area around Tomasevo as part of the search for Balijagić, a suspect in the murder of brother and sister Milenka and Jovan Madžgalj, in the village of Sokolac in Bijelo Polje.

The Chief of General Staff of the Army of Montenegro, Brigadier General Zoran Lazarevic, during a visit to the village of Sokolac in Bijelo Polje, said that members of the army and police used all the capabilities and techniques at their disposal to locate the suspect of the double murder at this location, reports RTCG.

Milenka and Jovan Madžgalj were shot dead on the evening of October 25. The suspect Alija Balijagić is a repeat offender who has committed criminal acts, which is why he has been serving sentences for years.

At the end of September, it is suspected that he broke into VB’s house in the village of Lješnica in Bjelopolje and stole two rifles and ammunition.

Over the past 15 days, he has been on the run from police, visiting mostly elderly households in remote villages above Bijelo Polje and Mojkovac.
