Land Waqf notices issued to farmers in Vijayapura during BJP tenure, says Karnataka minister – Karnataka News

Amid the ongoing controversy in Karnataka over alleged land grabs by the Vijayapura State Waqf Board, Congress Minister MB Patil claimed that the notices served were issued during the BJP’s governance from 2019 to 2022 .

The Congress minister shared the copies of the Waqf notices on X, highlighting his statement that farmers were being targeted during the BJP’s tenure.

Patil accused the BJP of promoting a “false pro-Hindutva position” through misinformation. He criticized the opposition party for exploiting communal discourses and divisive politics, thereby distancing itself from fundamental development issues during its tenure.

He then challenged the BJP to clarify why advisories were issued to farmers during his governance. Patil further argued that even though the BJP had pointed fingers at the Congress, no farmer in Vijayapura had received Waqf-related land demands under the current Congress administration.

“They misled the people on issues like hijab, halal and Uri Gowda-Nanjegowda while they were in power, and now they are continuing the same tactics. Their attempts to mislead the public with fabricated narratives will no longer work,” he said.

Further, Patil questioned why the BJP had restructured its inquiry committee on the Waqf issue, initially set up by party president BY Vijayendra. He said this was after facing backlash from his own leaders, like Basanagouda Patil Yatnal, for not adding him to the inquiry committee.

Patil pointed out that the addition of Yatnal and MP Ramesh Jigajinagi to the committee was a symbolic gesture and revealed internal struggles within the party.

He urged the BJP to clarify why these notices were served during its rule and resolve its own internal conflicts rather than stoking communal issues in the state.
