Liberty VI continues to expand fiber coverage across the USVI, promising reliable high-speed internet

Liberty VI continues its commitment to expanding fiber optic high-speed Internet throughout the U.S. Virgin Islands with fiber optic network projects underway on St. Croix and St. Thomas. With permits approved for Estate Barren Spot in St. Croix and Estate Nazareth in St. Thomas, the telecommunications company presented detailed construction plans and expected completion times, with the goal of improving connectivity and strengthening network resilience to natural weather events.

At Estate Barren Spot, work will resume on October 29, following delays due to equipment upgrades and design updates. Liberty VI Managing Director Ravindra Maywahlall highlighted the company’s commitment to providing reliable high-speed internet access to more areas across the country.

“As we obtain the necessary permits, we are moving forward with our fiber-to-the-home construction projects so that more locations across the country can have access to our fast fiber Internet,” he said. he declared. Liberty VI plans to complete the project within four weeks, after which residents and businesses will benefit from improved broadband access.

For the Estate Nazareth project in St. Thomas, Liberty VI announced that work would begin October 28. Expected to take approximately seven weeks, this construction will utilize advanced underground installation techniques to minimize road disruption. Using a micro-trenching technique will limit pavement cuts to 1¾ inches, significantly reducing dust and preserving the integrity of the pavement. Liberty VI also aims to exploit existing underground conduits where possible, further reducing the impact of construction on the local environment.

Both projects will include the installation of underground conduit and fiber optic cables, with construction scheduled to take place weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Liberty VI said it is committed to maintaining minimal traffic disruption, although residents and drivers should anticipate potential delays and partial lane closures. To avoid obstructions, the company advises residents to park on their property rather than on the street. Liberty VI is also committed to keeping the community informed of project updates through its website, allowing residents to plan their trips accordingly.

Installing fiber underground improves the resilience of the network, protecting it from natural disasters, vandalism and other hazards. The company said it will continue to provide information on its website about construction schedules and locations of future projects in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Liberty, a subsidiary of Liberty Latin America, has made strides to bring high-speed internet and mobile services to the Virgin Islands. The company said it currently provides 5G mobile coverage to 95% of the population and plans to further strengthen its infrastructure through these fiber initiatives.
