Between Diablo 4, its Vessel of Hatred expansion, and the full arrival of Last Epoch, it’s been a good few years for the ARPG. Path of Exile 2originally scheduled for Friday, November 15, is expected to be the next big hit in the genre’s recent resurgence, but developer Grinding Gear now confirms that the Early Access launch for PoE 2 has been delayed. Naturally, it can be a little frustrating when an important and highly anticipated game gets pushed back, but the creator of Path of Exile 2 has a very good reason to ask players to wait. The plan is to move all in-game items and purchases from PoE 1 to PoE 2. In order to ensure a smooth transition, Grinding Gear needs a few more weeks.

THE Path of Exile 2 release date is coming again very soon, and we will be able to play the new RPG before the end of 2024. Building on the beloved original game, launched in 2013, Path of Exile 2 introduces a new six-act campaign, a new skill system, 100 endgame maps with their own bosses, and other smaller tweaks like adding a dodge roll. PoE 2 will also allow players to keep their accounts from the first game, as well as their inventory and paid in-game items. To achieve this, Grinding Gear must delay the game by three weeks.

“I’m really sorry about this one. People schedule free time around our launches, but we just have to do it,” says game director Jonathan Rogers. “Turns out it’s not really the game itself that’s behind. This is a set of server-side infrastructure work that took us much longer than expected.

“One of the promises we made was that all your microtransactions would work on PoE 1 and 2. That meant changing a lot of things. Not only did we have to create a bunch of new systems, but we also had to make sure that all the old data was backwards compatible with them, and when you start migrating databases that old and with that much data, you find everything kind of strange demons in there.

“We have to make everything perfect so that no one loses what they paid for and their account doesn’t get broken. I actually believe we could have met the original launch date, but I’m not really sure we could do it without making mistakes, and those are the kinds of mistakes we just can’t let occur. This one is entirely my fault. I just didn’t leave enough time to make sure we could do it. I’m really sorry. This one really hurts.
