US Election 2024 Live Updates: US President Joe Biden votes for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in Delaware

US Election 2024 live updates: Harris taps Maggie Rogers as she tries to ignite college-aged voters in battleground Michigan

Vice President Kamala Harris energized her young supporters at a rally and concert Monday in the crucial state of Michigan. The event featured singer-songwriter Maggie Rogers, who encouraged the audience to vote, saying that taking action is “bigger than fear” in these uncertain times.

Michigan saw the highest youth voter turnout in the country in 2022, with long lines at polling places on college campuses. Democrats aim to recreate that enthusiasm this year through events like the one Harris hosted in Ann Arbor, home of the University of Michigan, with Rogers.

“You can vote early until Sunday, November 3, and we need you to vote early, Michigan, because we only have eight days left,” the Democratic presidential candidate said at an outdoor rally by a temperature of 50 degrees. “Eight days remain in one of the most important elections of our lifetime.”

Harris expressed confidence in their victory, saying they had the chance to turn the page and create a new and joyful path forward. Thousands attended the event at Burns Park, where Rogers performed hits like “Love You for a Long Time.” The rally also brought together Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, for the first time since their campaign bus tour of Georgia in August.

Rogers shared her concerns about the scary headlines she sees on her phone, admitting that the future seems uncertain and she doesn’t always know how to cope with that feeling. However, she emphasized that taking action, like voting, is more powerful than fear. “Voting is the key to the future,” she said.
