Voting is underway in North Carolina and election officials want to remind voters how to check if their ballot was counted this election season.

Some voters wonder if their vote was counted correctly. Here’s how to make sure your vote has been cast and counted:

Important dates

• Voting by mail began in late September, and voters can request absentee ballots until October 29.
• In-person early voting began on October 17 and will continue until Saturday November 2.
• Election Day East Tuesday November 5.

As voting deadlines approach, state elections officials are urging North Carolina voters to use the options below to ensure their ballot is counted.

In person from the start

Those who voted early in person may find their vote was recorded statewide. “Voter Search” Database.

To find voters, search the State Board’s Voter Finder tool, then scroll down to the “Your Ballot: By Mail or Early Vote” section.

For those who voted during the early voting period, the “Voting Method” will be listed as “EARLY VOTING” and the “Poll Status” will indicate “VALID RETURN”, with the “Voting Status” as “ACCEPTED.”

This status is usually updated the day after voting on an early voting site.

Absent by email

Once the Mecklenburg County Board of Elections receives a ballot, voters can see their votes counted in the “Your Ballot: By Mail or Early Voting” section of the website. “Voter search” tool.

The “Voting Method” will be “MAIL-BASED”, the “Poll Status” will show “VALID RETURN” and the “Voting Status” will be “ACCEPTED” or “ACCEPTED – CURED”.

The status of a counted ballot can also be found in the “Voter History” section once Mecklenburg County has completed the post-election process of assigning voter histories to records.

This could take a few weeks or more.

In person on election day

For those who insert a ballot into a tabulator, the selections will be stored on a memory device. The vote count will increase after each vote on the tabulator.

These results are counted and made public on election night.

To obtain additional confirmation that a ballot has been counted, voters can use the “Voter Search” Tool.

A voting status will appear in the “Your Voter History” section once Mecklenburg County completes the post-election process of assigning voter history to records.

The “voted method” will be “IN-PERSON ELECTION DAY.”

This may take a few weeks or more after the election.

Provisional ballots

Those who voted provisionally can check the status of their ballot 10 days after the election via the “Provisional search” tool.

All four fields on the form must be completed, including the PIN number assigned to voters at the polling location when they cast their provisional ballot.
