Candidate’s View: Laws should benefit everyone, not just certain groups – Duluth News Tribune

I grew up in Duluth and spent most of my life in Minnesota. I also spent 34 years in a fulfilling marriage while raising two wonderful children. Recently, I embraced the joy of becoming a grandparent. For 26 years, I have successfully run a software consulting business and work full time to support my family and give back to my community.

I have a big vision for Minnesota. I envision a strong, robust state that excels in education, living standards, and working conditions – a state where businesses thrive, people thrive, our environment is intact, and energy is both abundant and affordable. I see a Minnesota with a low cost of living and reasonable taxes, making it a great place for everyone to succeed.

To achieve this vision, we need lawmakers who take a new perspective on spending and regulation. We are looking for representatives with significant experience managing diverse priorities and the skills needed to close deals. It is essential to have legislators pass laws that benefit a broad range of citizens, rather than a privileged few.

Many of the bills proposed by my opponent have been controversial and do not align with the priorities of the people of Duluth.

Rep. Alicia “Liish” Kozlowski

co-authored legislation

(HF2860) to make Minnesota a sanctuary state. This bill would have prevented state agencies and officials, including law enforcement, from inquiring about immigration status or collaborating with the federal government on immigration issues.

Kozlowski also presented

an invoice

(HF4010) which would have transferred zoning authority from cities to the state. This would have forced cities to allow high-density housing without considering residents’ desires or the area’s infrastructure capabilities, such as water, gas, wastewater, electricity or parking in the area. Street.

Additionally, Kozlowski

drafted a bill

(HF0441) to ban tobacco products in public schools, but this specifically excluded American Indians from the ban. Such exemptions raise important questions about equity and justice in public school health policies.

Another

bill

(HF2789) was intended to provide special business development funding specifically for LGBTQ individuals.

My goal is not to criticize these groups but to point out that these proposals would have granted special privileges to certain groups with which Kozlowski publicly identifies, without addressing the broader needs of the public.

I find it concerning that when I talk with people about the bills that Rep. Kozlowski authored, very few are aware of them. There was little media coverage and they were not mentioned in any of the candidate forums I attended. Many people do not realize the significant impacts these bills could have on our lives and on Minnesota as a whole.

I believe Rep. Kozlowski is sincere and trying to help, with good intentions. However, I also see potential negative consequences in the proposed bill. When

Kozlowski writes

“we are just beginning to build the just world we deserve” suggests that we can expect more similar bills in the future.

We can do better and we must do better. We need laws that benefit everyone equally.

My mission as a representative will be to fight for everyone. Whether you look like me, live like me, love like me, or work like me, I will strive to represent you. I will ensure that the government serves you effectively. We need a more thoughtful approach to spending and regulations, as well as progressive thinking in St. Paul. I envision a strong, prosperous Minnesota for all, where everyone feels safe and happy to live and raise their children and grandchildren.
