Washington County Voter Perspectives: Jeff and Robin Miller

Washington County

Washington County, population just over 209,000, has voted solidly Republican for two decades. The county, considered part of the Greater Pittsburgh region, voted overwhelmingly for Donald Trump (60.8%) in 2020, compared to 38.1% for Biden. The last time a Democratic presidential candidate won the county was in 2004.

Voters: Robin and Jeff Miller

The Millers, both 62, operate Jemco Construction LLC, which has been in the family since its founding in 1935 in Washington County. Both support Trump and say they prioritize issues such as abortion, the economy and immigration. They view the election as crucial to reversing the Biden administration’s policies, which they say have hurt the economy. They also advocated for stricter voting rules and expressed skepticism about the integrity of the elections.

On the border crisis:

Jeff: “It’s not that we don’t want immigrants, we want them to be vetted. »

On abortion:

Robin: “I don’t know (what more Trump can do). I think he will keep (the decision) in the United States, that’s what he will do. I think (Democrats) would try to reconsider that call.

On the issues of the election:

Robin: “I think there’s still more to play for because we have to dig ourselves out of the hole, and I think more and more people are becoming desperate about their financial situation. »

On energy policy:

“The war on fossil fuels has to be, I mean: we’ve developed the cleanest form of natural gas. So why would we buy it from other countries that have no regulations? They are still producing. It continues to spread through the atmosphere at the most impure levels, and it still affects us all. So why shouldn’t those with the most clean energy reinforcements be the ones producing it for the world?

On the importance of fair elections:

Jeff: “I don’t want to see my pets vote, my deceased grandparents vote. »

Robin: “I don’t understand why we don’t have to show ID. Even at Democratic conventions, when they have them, people show their ID before they enter. How is it?
