Pitt QB Eli Holstein ‘He’ll Be Fine’ After Leaving Game Against Syracuse

PITTSBURGH — Eli Holstein left the win against Syracuse early in the fourth quarter with an apparent injury, but Pat Narduzzi said Holstein will be fine.

Narduzzi said Holstein, who left the game and entered the sideline medical tent before going to the locker room, was kept out for the rest of the fourth quarter out of precaution.

Narduzzi said he was happy and smiling in the locker room after Holstein’s 41-13 victory over ‘Cuse.

Holstein started on first-and-10 early in the fourth quarter, gained 13 yards and a first down, but came down hard when he was tackled at the sideline. ‘Cuse appeared to hit his head while being tackled by linebacker Justin Barro, but walked to the medical tent under his own power.

Holstein left the game, went to the injury tent, and after leaving the tent, headed towards the locker room.

Holstein completed 11-of-15 pass attempts and added 20 yards on the ground for 108 yards and two touchdowns before leaving the game. Pitt took a 31-6 lead coming off the game and scored three defensive touchdowns on a pick-six. Nate Yarnell came in in relief of Holstein and put the Panthers in range for Ben Sauls’ 57-yard field goal.

Holstein has completed 138 of 215 pass attempts (64%) for 1,808 yards with 17 touchdowns and five interceptions this season; He rushed for 286 yards (4.8 yards per carry) and three touchdowns on the ground this season.

Pitt has a big test against No. 22 SMU next weekend in Dallas, Texas, and it looks like Holstein will be a good opponent against the Mustangs.
