LIMESTONE CO., Alabama (WAF) – Two people were arrested Monday after a drug bust in Athens.

The Limestone County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division (CID), Narcotics Division and SWAT Team conducted a search warrant at a home on Beech St.

The warrant is the result of a collaboration between CID and narcotics investigators in investigating fentanyl overdose deaths.

During the search, investigators discovered drugs and drug paraphernalia in the home where Darryl Johnson, 49, and Tarika Gilbert, 34, were being held.

Johnson was charged with Trafficking in Drugs – Fentanyl, Unlawful Distribution of a Controlled Substance – Fentanyl, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Possession of Marijuana – 2nd Degree.

Gilbert was charged with Drug Trafficking – Fentanyl, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Possession of Marijuana – 2nd Degree.

Bond has not been set for either Johnson or Gilbert.
