Henderson Police Launch Toolkit to Help Victims of Domestic Violence

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) — The Henderson Police Department is leading a new initiative for victims.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

The Department now stocks every patrol car with a chokehold resource kit.

HPD says patrol officers are the first responders to domestic violence calls and the kits will allow them to identify internal injuries that may not be visible from the outside.

The department says that since strangulation is so dangerous, it is important to have a safe way to document it.

“We want victims to continue to monitor their symptoms,” said Lindsay Vukanovich, public information officer for Henderson police.

The kit is also available in Spanish.

“This particular sheet that we leave for them, they are able to do that and can take it directly to a doctor later,” police added.

If you or someone you know is a victim of domestic violence, the Henderson Police Department has a victim and witness advocacy program.
