Choosing a partner for downtown hotel development

The Beaumont City Council unanimously approved an agreement with Stonehenge Holdings as a partner to conduct a pre-development study for a hotel.

An important part of the downtown vision plan, a hotel will be built on the site of the former AT&T building at 555 Main Street.

The hotel will also serve as a convention center replacing the Beaumont Civic Center and overlooks a river promenade.

Mayor Roy West says not only will the hotel bring more visitors to Beaumont, but it will also bring more revenue to the town.

“The town of Beaumont is a corporation and the town thrives when we have more revenue,” West said. “There is a limit to the number of residents we have, which is why we view downtown development as so important.”

The business study will focus on factors such as feasibility, financial planning, design and other elements. The cost will not exceed $275,000.
