Georgians urged to cast absentee ballots as early voting continues to break records

Georgia continues to break records for early voting participation with three days remaining.

According to the Georgia Secretary of State’s office, more than 3.2 million people in the Peach State have already voted. This represents more than 45% of the total number of active voters who went to the polls.

Some counties, like Towns County in north Georgia, had turnout of nearly 65%.

Election officials said Tuesday that it was the first time in Georgia history that early voting turnout exceeded 3 million.

“Georgia voters make us all proud. They voted in person in record numbers. 3,271,569 total votes so far,” Gabriel Sterling, director of operations for the Georgia Secretary of State’s office, wrote on . “It’s the embodiment of America.”

Election officials say that between the safeguards put in place and the high turnout, it’s evidence of a successful election season so far in the Peach State.

A significant number of voters are still expected at polling stations on Friday, the last day of early voting.

New recommendations for Georgia mail-in voters

The majority of those voters cast ballots in person, with just over 200,000 mail-in ballots sent out as of Wednesday morning.

Officials are recommending that the roughly 140,000 Georgia voters who still keep their absentee ballots drop them off in person at county election offices or in drop boxes instead of sending them by mail.
