It’s official. New AMD Radeon RDNA 4 graphics cards coming soon

For those of you who still have a small glimmer of hope that the new range of AMD Radeon RDNA 4 GPUs would be released just before the end of 2024, we have bad news for you. Indeed, AMD has confirmed that it is “on track to launch the first RDNA 4 GPUs in early 2025”. The announcement comes directly from the company’s CEO, Lisa Su, who made the statement during AMD’s latest earnings call.

While perhaps a little disappointing, Su at least confirms the “early” launch timeline. Moreover, it is ultimately not a surprise, because several months of rumors regularly point towards the two. AMD and Nvidia are preparing to launch their new competitors for a place in the market. best graphics card world guides at some point next year. There was a brief period where hope was high that AMD could look to beat Nvidia and launch its new GPUs this year, but that expectation has long since diminished.

As for when in 2025 we can expect the RDNA 4 and Nvidia rival Blackwell gaming GPUs to arrive, rumors have long suggested that they would both be announced at CES 2025 technology fair in early January 2025, and this announcement fuels this fire. Nvidia is expected to give a keynote speech there during which it is expected to announce products like the RTX5090.

Meanwhile, AMD doesn’t yet have a major keynote planned at the show, but the latest RX 8000 rumors point to AMD announcing a multitude of products to THESE. These would include its new RDNA 4 GPUs, as well as a new AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme processor aimed at a new generation of gaming handhelds, such as the Lenovo Legion Go 2. The new AMD Strix Halo A laptop’s processor, with its ultra-powerful integrated graphics card, would also be unveiled at the show.

AMD has already confirmed that it has given up on competing for the high end of the graphics card market. So we don’t expect it to unveil a product capable of competing with the Nvidia RTX 5090. Instead, we expect a Radeon RX 8700 XT, Radeon RX 8800 XT or Radeon RX 8900 XT will rather compete with a possible Nvidia RTX5070 for overall performance. AMD is expected to deliver significantly improved ray tracing performance with these new GPUs, however, which could make them much more competitive overall.

Whatever happens, we’ll be at the CES 2025 show to report on exactly what both companies have in store for us. And while we all wait, you can find out what we know so far about AMD’s big competitor RDNA 4 in our Nvidia RTX 5000 guide, where we share everything we know so far about the upcoming Blackwell gaming GPU lineup.
