Peoria mayor and city council to receive pay raises starting in 2027

THE Peoria City Council voted to give raises to council members and the mayor starting in 2027.

The salaries of the mayor and district council members will remain stable at $58,451 and $16,500, respectively, for the next two years, but will begin to increase in 2027 under a motion passed by the city council during ‘a vote of 8 to 3 Tuesday evening.

In 2027, the mayor’s salary will increase to $59,620 per year and that of council members to $16,830 per year. In 2028, the mayor’s salary will increase again to $60,813 and that of council members to $17,167 per year.

Council members Zach Oyler, Tim Riggenbach and Denis Cyr opposed the salary increases.

The last time the mayor received a pay raise was in 2020. At the time, the mayor’s salary increased from $57,305 to $58,451.

Salaries for district council members last increased in 2016, from $14,000 to the current salary of $16,500.
